Illegal logging is the primary driver of deforestation, significantly impacting Panama’s natural ecosystems.
8,500 hectares deforested each year from 2012 to 2019
Over the past decade, nearly 8,500 hectares of forest were lost annually, accelerating environmental degradation.
4,518 square kilometers of forest lost by 2008, over 10% of Panama’s forest area.
This loss has harmed biodiversity and affected local communities, highlighting the need for urgent reforestation efforts.
6.7 billion dollars estimated losses from deforestation
The economic impact of this deforestation was estimated at 6.7 billion dollars, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
